To all of you dads and grandfathers out there, Happy Father's Day. Here is one definition of a father; "A man who carries photographs where his money used to be."
A young father-to-be was pacing back and forth, wringing his hands in the hospital corridor while his wife was in labor. He was tied up in knots of fear and anxiety, and beads of perspiration dropping from his brow revealed the agony of his suffering. Finally, at 400 a.m. a nurse popped out of a door and said, "Well, sir, you have a little girl." He dropped his hands, became limp, and said, "Oh how I thank God it's a girl. She'll never have to go through the awful agony I've had tonight!"
Dads, grandfathers, we can never underestimate the impact we will make on those who come behind us. The following poem by Croft Pentz helps us understand that.
There are little eyes upon you, and they're watching night and day.
There are little ears that quickly take in every word you say;
There are little hands all eager to do everything you do,
And a little boy who's dreaming of the day he'll be like you.
You're the little fellow's idol, you're the wisest of the wise;
In his little mind about you no suspicions ever rise;
He believes in you devotedly, holds that all you say and do
He will say and do in your way when he's grown up like you.
There's a wide-eyed little fellow who believes you're always right,
And his ears are always open and he watches day and night,
You are setting an example every day in all you do,
For the little boy who's waiting to grow up to be like you.
Because we care here at NSCF,
Sincerely, Pastor John Giesbrecht
