We sure do appreciate you taking the time to read what we believe really are "Timely Truths". Possibly a few little stories will help you to refocus, with us, on the wonder of the Christmas message.
An old pioneer traveled westward across the Great Plains until he came to an abrupt halt at the edge of the Grand Canyon. He gawked at the sight before him; a vast chasm one mile down, eighteen miles across, and ore than a hundred miles long! He gasped, "Something musta happened here!"
The Christmas story makes us feel the same way about the Son of God coming to Earth.
An artist once drew a picture of a winter twilight -- the trees heavily laden with snow, and a dreary, dark house, lonely and desolate in the midst of the storm. It was a sad picture. Then with a quick stroke of yellow crayon, he put a light in one window. The effect was magical. The entire scene was transformed into a vision of comfort and cheer. The birth of Christ was just such a light in the dark world.
Another similar story regarding light is illustrated in the following little story.
Back during World War II a little boy and his daddy were driving home on Christmas Eve. They drove past rows of houses with Christmas trees and decorations in the windows. In many of the windows the little boy noticed a star. He asked his father, "Daddy, why do some of the people have a star in the window?"
His daddy said that the star meant that the family had a son in the war. As they passed the last house, suddenly the little boy caught sight of the evening star in the sky. "Look, Daddy, God must have a son in the war too! He's got a star in his window." Indeed, God has a son who went to war, but Jesus came into our world to go to war with sin.
The purpose of light is to dispel darkness, but for a number of reasons, it seems that people are afraid of the light. We sincerely hope that Jesus, "the Light of the World", will have an even greater impact on your lives this Christmas.
May you have the Best Christmas ever.
Sincerely, because of Jesus,
Pastor John Giesbrecht
