An insurance agent received a phone call from an excited woman. "I want to insure my house," she said. "Can I do it by phone?" "I'm sorry," answered the man, "but I'd have to see if first." "Then you'd better get here right away," exclaimed the woman, "because the place is on fire!"
Maybe you've been asking, "Just where has the time gone this year?" Time truly is a precious commodity. Someone said to me recently "I just want to make my time count and not waste my opportunities to make a difference."
Someone has said "Yesterday is a cashed cheque; tomorrow is a promissory note. today is cash in hand, so use it -- invest it."
Bill and Gloria Gaither wrote a wonderful song relating to time, and our use of it. It is entitled "We Have This Moment Today."
"Hold tight to the sound of the music of living, happy songs from the laughter of children at play. Hold my hand as we run through the sweet fragrant meadows making memories of what was today."
Tender words, gentle touch, and a good cup of coffee, and someone who loves me and wants me to stay. hold them near while they're here and don't wait for tomorrow to look back and wish for today.
Take the blue of the sky and the green of the forest and the gold and the brown of the freshly mown hay. Add the pale shades of spring and the circus of autumn and weave you a lovely today.
We have this moment to hold in our hands, and to touch as it slips through our fingers like sand. Yesterday's gone and tomorrow may never come, but we have this moment today."
Our goal then should be not to find more time, but to use time more wisely. It's easy to forget that time is our slave, not our sovereign, isn't it?
We have found if we take time to worship, we somehow find time for the things we really need to do. Why don't you come worship God with us? May we see you?
