Once again, warm summer greetings to you fellow North Shuswappers. Seeing that this is the time that so many folks visit us on their vacations, I thought we could ponder a few thoughts related to busyness and rest. Someone once said, "We are in such a hurry, we hate to miss on panel of a revolving door."
Maybe you feel sometimes that you are on a giant treadmill going non-stop and you are saying to yourself, "stop this crazy world, I want to get off." or like the wall plaque says, "The hurrieder I goes, the behinder I gets." I wonder how productive and efficient we can be if we continue such hectic paces. I wonder also whether the people we love and live with are frustrated because of our lack of energy left over to effectively meet their needs.
To quote best selling author, Charles Swindoll, "We have been a generation of people who worship our work, who work at our play and who play at our worship."
Our Lord Jesus Himself was one of the busiest people around during His three years of earthly ministry, but we have it recorded several times that He deliberately took a break. He got away from the demands of the public and enjoyed periods of relaxation with his disciples.
His was a life of beautiful balance. He accomplished everything the Father sent Him to do. Everything. And He did it without ignoring those essential time of leisure. If that is the way He lived, then it makes good sense that that is the way we too must learn to live.
Friends, it's not only okay to relax, but relaxation is essential. Without encouraging an irresponsible mentality, you can take time for fun and still be efficient. In fact, you'll be more efficient.
And while you're at it, why don't you take the time with other folks to go to a House of Worship. That is advice that has been around for a long time, and it is still very relevant. If you don't have a church home, we would be thrilled to have you join us.
Sincerely, because of Jesus our Teacher and Savior,
Pastor John Giesbrecht
