September 2009 Publication

In classrooms across the nation and across the world, students are studying with bent heads and at least some degree of concentration.

There are other sources from which we can obtain knowledge necessary to live successfully.  The most important is the Bible, with its teachings for a complete life.

An unknown author offers thought-provoking words.

THE ANVIL - GOD'S WORD

Last eve I passed beside a blacksmith's door,
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;
Then, looking in, I saw upon the floor
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.

"How many anvils have you had," said I,
"To wear and batter all these hammers so?"
"Just one," said he, and then, with twinkling eye,
"The anvil wears the hammers out, you know."

And so, thought I, the anvil of God's Word,
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet, though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The anvil is unharmed -- the hammers gone.

Getting  more knowledge is something that we should always strive for but knowledge for the sake of knowledge is simply gaining information.  The Bible talks about people who are always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

A young man was being interviewed to be a pilot for a steamboat on the Mississippi River.  The interviewer, doubtful that the young man could know the dangers of the river, asked if he knew where all the rocks were.  To this he replied,  "No sir, I do not know where all the rocks are, but I know where they aren't."  He got the job.

True knowledge is that which outlasts all the attempts to disprove it.  We are blessed because of its stability.

As the old song goes,  "My Lord knows the way through the wilderness.  All I have to do is follow."

You are welcome to come learn with us.
