October 2008 Publication

A man rose from his seat in a crowded bus so a lady standing nearby could sit down.  She was so surprised she fainted.  When she revived and sat down, she said,  "Thanks."  The he fainted.

A man writing a post-office desk was approached by an elderly fellow who asked,  "Sir, could I get you to address this postcard for me?"
The man did so gladly, and then agreed to another request, which was to write a message on the card, and to sign it.  He then asked,  "Is there anything else I can do for you?"
The old fellow thought a moment, and then said,  "Yes.  Add this at the end:  'P.S. Please excuse the handwriting.'"

How often do we take our circumstances or other people for granted?

A soldier in the American Third Army was sent to a rest camp after a period of active service.  When he returned to his outfit, he wrote a letter to General George Patton and thanked him for the splendid care he had received.  General Patton wrote back that for thirty-five years he had sought to give all the comfort and convenience he could to his men, and added that this was the first letter of thanks he had received in all his years in the army.

Are you characterized as someone who is positive, grateful and cheerful, or would you be known for your negative, critical, ungrateful attitude?  Guess who people would rather associate with?  There is always something to be thankful for.  For example:
Thank God for dirty dishes,
They have a tale to tell;
While others may go hungry
We've eaten very well.
With home, health and happiness
I shouldn't want to fuss,
By the stack of evidence
God's been very good to us!

Have you ever considered thanking God for the gift of His Son?  That would be a great place to start on your journey to contentment.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Pastor John Giesbrecht
